Pundit Phil Neville has told Match of the Day (08/04/2017) that he felt Kieran Trippier was the best player on the pitch during Tottenham’s 4-0 hammering of Watford.
After beating Burnley and Swansea City in a busy schedule, Spurs were back at White Hart Lane to take on an injury-ravaged Watford side – and they took full advantage in a convincing win.
Dele Alli curled the ball home from long range to give Spurs a 1-0 lead, and Eric Dier made it two by smashing past Heurelho Gomes from the edge of the box.
Son Heung-min then rattled in a left-footed strike from range, and later got his second and Tottenham’s fourth by tucking away Kieran Trippier’s deep cross.
Two-goal hero Son stole the headlines, as goalscorers tend to do, but full back Trippier impressed with a superb performance, having been brought in for Kyle Walker at right back.
Trippier, 26, was making just his third Premier League start of the season, and having registered two assists against Watford back in January, he was at it again with another dangerous attacking performance.

Not only did he tee up Son’s second goal with an inch-perfect cross, but he was a constant menace down Tottenham’s right, sending in a number of pinpoint balls that Tottenham should have capitalised on.
After the final whistle, pundit and former full back Phil Neville told Match of the Day that he felt Trippier was the man of the match – something of a surprise if you had read the teamsheets before the game – and felt the enjoyed an unbelievable performance given his lack of first-team football this season.
“I thought he was the best player on the pitch by far,” said Neville. “He made five really good chances for Spurs to score, and he’s had no opportunities for Spurs – this was only his third Premier League start of the season. When it gets to the point of crossing – the most important part – the technique of crossing, I think this is where he’s so impressive. For someone that’s only made three starts, it was an unbelievable performance,” he added.
