Everton were beaten 3-2 by Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in their most recent match.
Phil Neville has told Match of the Day Two, which was broadcast on BBC One on 5th March, that he thought Ross Barkley was Everton’s best player against Tottenham Hotspur.
Barkley was in fine form, despite the fact that Everton were unable to beat Spurs at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham ran out 3-2 winners over Everton, but Neville claims that there were encouraging signs about Romelu Lukaku and Barkley’s partnership.
“I thought Ross Barkley was Everton’s best player today,” Neville said.
“There is definitely an understanding [between Barkley and Lukaku]. There are still bits of his game that he can improve. But he’s the one player in the Everton team who can play that pass [a through ball].”
Everton set up in a defensive tactic at White Hart Lane, but they fell 2-0 down after Harry Kane hit a double.
The Toffees then went on the offensive and got back into the match when Romelu Lukaku scored.
However, Dele Alli hit Spurs’ third goal and even though Enner Valencia did get on the scoresheet late on, it was to prove nothing more than a consolation.
Everton’s defeat means that they have failed to close the gap on the top six, and remain stuck in seventh place in the Premier League table.
Everton are next in action against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
