Former Everton captain Phil Neville has claimed on Match of the Day that he feels it could be “Everton’s year” after an impressive transfer window that saw the Toffees land four players on deadline day.

Manager Marco Silva had already signed left-back Lucas Digne from Barcelona and Richarlison from Watford, with the Brazilian already being lured to Watford by Silva. His £50million transfer fee is already proving money well spent.

The young Brazilian scored in Everton’s 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday, to net his third in two games after a brace against Wolves. Theo Walcott had opened the scoring, before Danny Ings got the Saints back in it.

Silva signed Yerry Mina from Barcelona on a permanent basis, while Andre Gomes joins on loan. Kurt Zouma is also on loan from Chelsea, while Brazilian free agent Bernanrd has signed on the dotted line and Neville is excited.

“I sense a different atmosphere this season at Goodison,” Neville said. “I think it was quite negative during Sam Allardyce’s era. The signings they made on transfer deadline day – [Yerry] Mina, [Andre] Gomes, Bernard, [Kurt] Zouma.

“Richarlison as well. Yes, we haven’t seen most of those as of yet, but I’ve just got a sneaky feeling this could be Everton’s year. I’m a big fan of Marco Silva, I think it could be Everton’s year.”

Everton currently sit in sixth place after picking up four points from their opening two matches, and Silva will be hoping for another improved performance when they travel south to face Bournemouth – who have two wins from two.

Fans will be hoping that their club can play a much more attractive style of football to that of Allardyce’s reign, with European qualification the aim for the Merseyside outfit come May.
