Phil Neville has compared the qualities of South Korean international Son Heung-min to Manchester United legend Park Ji-sung. The 25-year-old winger has been an important player for Tottenham after a difficult start to life at Tottenham, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League last season.

“Park became a legend at Man United – unselfish work played in big games. Everyone remembers he stopped [Andrea] Pirlo in the Champions League, he was great to play with, a nightmare to play against”, Phil Neville told Goal.

“I think Son is going the same direction with what Park did at Man United. Maybe Son scores more goals, Park is more of a team player, but they have similar qualities”, he concluded.

Son is perhaps one of the most underrated players in the Spurs’ setup, especially given his versatility and his effectiveness in the final third of the pitch. The South Korean scored 21 goals last season, mostly being played out wide, which makes his goal tally even more impressive.

As Phil Neville pointed out, he’s similar to Park Ji-sung with the energy he provides to Mauricio Pochettino. Against Swansea, Pochettino started him as a wing-back, and although it might not have been his best game in the Tottenham shirt, he found a way to shine through, having 7 shots on goal (as many as Harry Kane and Dele Alli combined).

The ex-Leverkusen man is increasingly becoming one of the first names on the Tottenham team sheet, especially in big games. His ability to find space between the lines displaces defenders allowing the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane to get more time on the ball. If he can continue like this, he will be a legend for Tottenham, like his compatriot was for Manchester United.
