Everton have been one of the most active teams in the Premier League this season.

Phil Neville has suggested to The Debate on Sky Sports, which was broadcast on 10th August, that Everton were very clever with their transfer strategy this summer.

Everton made a number of signings this summer, before they sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.

And although Neville feels that the Toffees still need more additions before they can feel totally satisfied, he believes Ronald Koeman’s men have done some positive business so far.

Ronald Koeman, Manager of Everton shows appreciation to the fans after Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on May 12, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

“They signed the players first before they sold Lukaku,” he said. “I think that was clever.

“The fans knew Lukaku was going, but they brought in four or five before. Actually Lukaku left the club without too much discontent and it’s a long time since that happened at Everton. I think they need two players, probably a centre-forward.”

Everton have brought in the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Wayne Rooney this summer – who are all expected to have major impacts on their first-team.

The Toffees still have funds to spend, but getting deals over the line is proving complex, with market prices still extremely inflated.

Everton have been negotiating for Gylfi Sigurdsson for much of the summer so far, but Swansea City’s asking price of £50 million is proving problematic, according to the Telegraph.

Everton’s Premier League campaign gets under way with a match against Stoke City on Saturday.
