Everton’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City this weekend was certainly a fortunate scoreline for Ronald Koeman’s men.

The Toffees were outplayed for most of the game – with Romelu Lukaku’s goal coming out of the blue.

It was a game that also saw Maarten Stekelenburg make two penalty saves as Everton struggled to keep City at bay.

Both penalties were given away by Everton defender Phil Jagielka. The veteran has had a generally good start to the season but this was a game to forget. He was also poor for much of last season and it is with this in mind that Everton must not consider selling Ramiro Funes Mori in the near future.

The Argentine has struggled for football this season and has therefore been linked with a potential move away from the club in January.

But Jagielka, at 34, and his defensive partner Ashley Williams at 32-years-old, makes it clear that Everton need to have a young option at the ready as well.

The Argentine is a potential star of the future and Everton must not be short-sighted in their approach to the player’s future. Yesterday’s encounter with City was a big indicator toward that fact.
