Everton are said to be considering appointing Mikel Arteta to take over from Sam Allardyce.
The Spaniard has not yet had any experience at management, but his coaching skills have impressed with Manchester City.
And it seems that Jagielka would be delighted to see Arteta back at Everton.
The pair linked up together at Goodison Park back in their playing days, and Jagielka’s comments when Arteta left to join Arsenal show why he could be a good option to take over from Sam Allardyce.
“It was difficult to see Mikey go, not only as a player but as a lad. He spoke about 15 different languages so he was always good in the dressing room and with helping the foreign lads settle in,” Jagielka said.
“Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. It was the same with Steven Pienaar. Maybe not a lot of people appreciated how good he was for us until he went. Mikel was exactly same. Obviously I wish he was still here but he’s gone on to play Champions League football and I think most of the fans at Everton would wish him good luck as well.”
Appointing Arteta would be a risk for Everton, but it may be a gamble which is required.
The Toffees have been abject so far this campaign, and Allardyce appears highly unlikely to keep his job now.
Everton are in 10th place in the Premier League table, with concerns rising about their poor form, after a defeat to Burnley yesterday.
