Phil Jagielka: Everton’s Aaron Lennon is a menace to opposition defences

Everton defender Phil Jagielka never had any doubts Aaron Lennon would be a hit after the club signed him from Tottenham Hotspur.

Phil Jagielka has praised Aaron Lennon on Everton’s official site, after the winger’s brilliant start to life at Goodison Park.

Lennon joined Everton from Tottenham Hotspur on loan during the January transfer window and he has immediately become one of the Toffees’ main players.

The rapid wide man has offered Roberto Martinez’s side a new type of option going forward and Jagielka says that he is not surprised at the impact that Lennon has made.

“I’ve known Aaron for a long time and I knew he’d fit in here,” Jagielka said. “He just needed a bit of game time to get settled. In the first two games he admitted he was a little bit rusty, but since then he’s been a menace.

“It’s great when you see a lad who’s so hungry to impress. That’s something we needed with the sort of run we’d been on and he’s one of the main reasons why we’ve done so well in this last month or two.”

Lennon’s future is still unknown, but if he keeps impressing then Everton will surely be considering making a bid in the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old appears to have been deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and his chances of breaking back into Tottenham’s team look limited.

It means that Lennon can put himself in the shop window by continuing to perform well at Everton, as he will be hoping to do.

The England international has made 10 appearances for Everton, scoring twice, and he looks likely to remain part of the Toffees’ starting line-up until the end of the campaign.
