Phil Jagielka is out of contract at Everton at the end of the season.

Everton central defender Phil Jagielka has told talkSPORT that a decision on his future will be made in the next 10 days.

Jagielka is out of contract at Everton at the end of the season and has struggled for playing time this campaign.

The 36-year-old central defender has made only four starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Toffees this season, scoring one goal in the process, according to WhoScored.

The former Sheffield United defender came on a late substitute during Everton’s 2-0 win against Burnley at Goodison Park in the league on Friday evening.

After the match, the Englishman – who earns £50,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – said that a decision on his future will be made inside two weeks, and he has suggested that he will leave Everton at the end of the season.

Jagielka told talkSPORT when asked about his future: “The answer will probably come in the next ten days. I hope it is not my last game but it could well be.

“I hope there are some great moments to continue but, if not, I can’t complain. If it is a farewell game at home, so be it, but I want to continue playing football for as long as I can.”

Good decision from Everton?

Jagielka has been a major figure at Everton over the years, but the Englishman is past his best and is now 36 years of age.

It does make sense for the Toffees not to hand the defender a new contract, as they need to look forward.
