Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has been discussing all things Leeds United in the middle of the January transfer window.

The Whites have been one of the most active teams in England this month signing Max Wober already while Georginio Rutter is reportedly close to signing.

With two new players coming in, eyes are now turning towards outgoings at Elland Road, and one player who has been linked with a move away from West Yorkshire is Junior Firpo.

Firpo has been out of favour at Leeds for a little while now, and according to some reports, Real Betis are keen on taking the left-back off Leeds’ hands.

However, according to Hay, there isn’t too much weight behind the Betis rumours, with the reputable journalist stating that he would be very surprised if that deal happened.

Firpo to Betis not on

Hay shared what he knows about this situation.

“If Wober is the first choice, and Struijk is the backup, then it isn’t clear why you need Firpo,” Hay said.

“When it comes to Firpo, there were a few reports about Real Betis liking him and wanting to take him back, I would be quite surprised if that happened, but he definitely does need to find his nice, doesn’t he?”

Not needed

Firpo to Betis may not be on the cards right now, but a transfer away from Leeds may well be needed for the Spaniard.

As Hay says, Firpo may well be Leeds’ third-choice left-back right now, so if he does want to progress his career, he may have to look elsewhere.

Where he ends up remains to be seen, but it seems as though a move back to Seville with Betis isn’t one that is progressing right now.
