Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has shared a bit of insight into Leeds United’s feelings towards some of the refereeing decisions they’ve been on the wrong end of this season.
This is the second season of VAR being in the Premier League, but it seems as though there are still plenty of problems with the officiating in England’s top-flight, and Leeds have reportedly been vocal about some issues.
Hay was discussing the decision to leave George Baldock on the pitch after his two-footed lunge at Elland Road last weekend, and he was asked by one of his co-hosts if there was any way Leeds could ask for more clarity from the referee’s point of view.
“Is there any mechanism in place for clubs to ask the question on things like that?” Hay’s co-host asked.
Hay then gave an answer, claiming that Leeds have questioned a few decisions this term, naming Patrick Bamford’s disallowed goal against Crystal Palace as an example.
“Absolutely, and Leeds have, throughout the months of the season, have asked about decisions like Bamford’s disallowed goal against Crystal Palace and others like that that have been a bit confusing, and on several occasions PGMOL have come back to them and said they’ve made a mistake or that this is why that was done or that they can understand why they were unhappy with this,” Hay said.

We can certainly think of a few more decisions that the Whites may have wanted to query with the PGMOL this term.
Tyler Roberts’ disallowed goal against Wolves was rather questionable, and as Hay says, Bamford’s disallowed effort against Palace looked to be perfectly fine.
It’s good to see that United have been querying these things, but sadly, their complaints can’t change the results of those games.
