The Athletic’s Phil Hay has reported that Leeds United believe signing RB Salzburg star Maximilian Wober would be a bargain buy.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano had claimed that Leeds were planning on putting in a £14 million bid to sign Wober in January.
Interestingly, journalist Peter Linden also mentioned on his personal website that the 24-year-old “wants to go” to Elland Road.
Linden also disclosed that Jesse Marsch had a conversation with Maximilian Wober, and after reflecting on a potential transfer, he was convinced of heading to the Whites in 2023.
For those that are unaware of the Austrian, he is a left-footed central defender.
However, Wober is also comfortable when played as a left-back.

So far, Leeds have kept an unimpressive two clean sheets in the Premier League.
For context, Southampton are the only club in the country to have kept lesser clean sheets than Jesse March’s side.
And on Wednesday night, the Elland Road faithful witnessed their side concede merely 3 to a Manchester City side, who really and truly should have made it a cricket score.
As a result, defensive reinforcements are imperative.
Leeds feel Maximilian Wober would be a bargain buy
According to the Athletic’s Phil Hay in a latest report, Leeds believe the rumoured addition of Maximilian Wober would be a bargain buy in January.
Further details claim that the club expect that the centre-back market is set to become pricier shortly, which seems to have prompted them into eyeing a transfer for Wober.
Jesse Marsch and Co. should pounce at Wober signing
The rationale in place from Leeds United regarding Maximilian Wober is bang on the money.
£14 million for a player that can operate both at centre-back and left-back is a bargain, especially when defenders are going for record-breaking fees in this day and age.
Leeds undoubtedly need defensive cover and Wober would be a well-priced acquisition, if a deal comes to fruition.
