Phil Hay has told his Athletic podcast that Jesse Marsch would be keen to reunite with Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan at Leeds United this summer – but questions whether a move may go ahead, given a potential transfer fee.
Hwang, 25, has worked with Marsch at both RedBull Salzburg and RB Leipzig. His last full season under Marsch came in 2019-20 before he moved to Leipzig – scoring 16 goals and creating 22 more in 40 appearances.
The South Korea international struggled at Leipzig and joined Wolves on loan last summer. A move was then made permanent by Wolves for £14million in January. He has since scored five goals in 35 appearances for Wolves.
Reports this week claim that Leeds are considering a move to reunite with the versatile forward. Asked about Hwang, Hay questions whether Leeds would pay what Wolves want for him – but says Marsch would like Hwang.

“Hwang, as an example, Marsch knows him inside out. He has worked with him twice, he’s a player who I definitely think he would take given the right circumstances. But how much would you pay for Hwang?
“Even if his skill set is ideal, but there have been some big fees. If Wolves said you can have Hwang – but for £20m, or £25m, would you do it? I think Marsch would have him, I think he would,” Hay said.

Leeds could do with another body in the final third. Patrick Bamford’s injury issues continue, though Marsch does say a decision is yet to be made on whether he will be available for Saturday’s clash against Brighton.
Rodrigo has four goals in three games so far and is arguably the club’s first-choice striker. Joe Gelhardt lead the line against Barnsley on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup. But Leeds could do with cover.
Hwang might be ideal, in that he has played under Marsch before. He is not simply an out-and-out striker. He can play out wide, as a 10 or as a striker and from the bench, he might be the ideal kind of cover at Elland Road.
