Phil Foden has explained where he believes former Manchester City midfielder David Silva ranks amongst other world-class Premier League’s midfielders.

During David Silva’s time at Manchester City, the Spaniard won multiple Premier League titles as well as multiple FA Cup and Carabao Cup successes.

Silva was originally one of the first players to join City following Sheikh Mansour’s purchase of the Citizens back in 2009.

The Spanish midfielder joined from Valencia during the summer of 2010 which seemed a risk at this stage of the midfielder’s career with there also being reported interest from Manchester United, as well as from some of Europe’s top clubs.

Foden ranks Silva very highly amongst Premier League midfielders

As England prepare for the semi-final of the 2024 European Championship’s in Germany, Phil Foden will have a big role to play for the Three Lions.

So far for England, Foden has struggled hugely for the Three Lions as he has been shifted across the front line but he has been poor so far.

Despite this, Foden certainly learned from the best in Silva and the Englishman believes that Silva is better than some of the legendary attacking midfielders including Ronaldinho.

During a game of ‘Winner Stays On’ for talkSPORT, Foden refused the possibility to choose Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney, Kaka and Zinedine Zidane but chose to stick with the Spaniard.

“I don’t think anybody is going to beat David Silva because he is my favourite player,” Foden admitted as he kept picking the Etihad hero.

He then ended the video by saving Silva was his ‘favourite player’. The Spaniard was one of the best midfielders of his generation and Foden may be right to rank him that highly.

Silva ranks very highly in the Premier League’s list

He played 436 times at the Etihad, scoring 77 and registering an astonishing 130 assists, making him one of the best playmakers arguably of all time.

Pep Guardiola, who was Silva’s manager during the midfielder’s twilight of his career, admitted it was a ‘pleasure’ to manage the Spaniard.

“His impact, not just at City, which was unbelievable, but every team he played for Valencia, Eibar, Real Sociedad and the national team,” Guardiola told City’s website.

“The best I have seen playing in the pockets. He was one of the players who allowed for the success of this team.”
