The Cottagers star won his first call-up to Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad this week.
Fulham’s Tom Cairney celebrates
Tom Cairney’s first boss has paid the Fulham star one of the highest compliments there is in an interview with the Scottish Sun.
Cairney has been in fine form for the Cottagers this season, scoring nine goals and creating 10 more to lift Slavisa Jokanovic’s side to the cusp of a play-off place.
The midfielder’s form has not gone unnoticed, with Gordon Strachan handing him his first Scotland call up this month.
Championship leaders Newcastle United are even said to be pursuing a summer move for Cairney, and one North East native, Phil Brown, says the 26-year-old is cut from the same cloth as another.
“It’s as if he’s cut from the same cloth as Michael Carrick [the Manchester United midfielder] who seems to have got better as he’s matured,” he told the Scottish Sun.

Carrick won 34 caps for England and Brown, who was Hull City’s manager when Cairney signed his first professional contract, thinks the Nottingham-born player could turn into one who got away for the Three Lions.
“Tom might turn out to be a player who shows he’s slipped through England’s fingers because he seems to be getting better and better,” he said.
Cairney made only 11 appearances for Hull in the Premier League, before moving on to Blackburn Rovers and then Fulham.
However, the Cottagers’ number 10 appears destined to return to England’s top flight next term – one way or another.
