Sam Allardyce hinted that he’d be interested in taking over at Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion.
Sam Allardyce’s long-time partner Phil Brown has backed him to turn down any potential advances from West Bromwich Albion while claiming that the veteran gaffer’s future is in international football, speaking to Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (3 April, 9am).
West Brom are on the lookout for a new permanent manager after the controversial sacking of club legend Darren Moore in March with The Telegraph linking Slavisa Jokanovic and David Wagner, who have been promoted from the Championship with Fulham and Huddersfield Town respectively.
Allardyce seemingly threw his name into the frame on Tuesday, telling talkSPORT that returning to the Midlands was a ‘possibility’ and hinting that The Baggies should make contact with his agent.
But Brown, who was Allardyce’s assistant for six years before becoming a manager in his own right, believes that the 64-year-old’s time at club level is over.
The current Pune City boss has also implored Allardyce to join him in India by taking the country’s national team job.
“He’s past all that now (club management), he needs to do the international side,” said Brown. (In India) he’s got unbelievable resources on his hands if he fancies it. I’d love to see him over here.”
Considering that West Brom fans were very vocal in their criticism towards former manager Tony Pulis for a perceived negative style of play, appointing Allardyce might not go down too well at The Hawthorns.
