The towering centre-back has proven to be a wonderful addition for Liverpool.

Phil Babb of Liverpool FC Legends takes to the field before the match between Liverpool FC Legends and the Australian Legends at ANZ Stadium on January 7, 2016 in Sydney, Australia.

Phil Babb spoke to reporters about Virgil van Dijk’s quality, and suggested that the amount of Liverpool fans with the Dutchman’s name on their shirts just goes to show how good he has been since moving to Anfield, as quoted by the Irish Examiner.

The 27-year-old joined the Reds from Southampton in January 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £75 million, and he has gone on to be a real hit at Anfield, firmly establishing himself as one of the best centre-backs in world football in the process.

Van Dijk has helped transform Liverpool into one of the best teams in Europe, and should they go on to win either the Premier League or the Champions League this season, they will have the Holland international to thank.

And Babb highlighted the fact that many Liverpool fans now have the former Saints man’s name printed on the back of their shirts as evidence of just how important he has become to the Merseyside club, as quoted by the Irish Examiner:

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool during the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge on September 29, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

“What will his legacy be? Hopefully, it will be at Liverpool. He’s a joy to watch. It’s quite interesting to see the amount of Virgil shirts now on kids’ backs, and defenders never had that. It’s interesting to see fans recognising how good he is — they’re so in awe of this great defender.”

Next up for Liverpool is their huge Premier League clash with Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday, and Van Dijk will have to be at his dominant best once again, if the Reds are to keep their title hopes alive.
