Liverpool have impressed this season with a succession of exciting attacking displays.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Now at 10:15 am on December 2nd, ex-Reds defender Phil Babb compared Jürgen Klopp’s current crop of players to the side in which he played during the 1990’s.

Liverpool have been in scintillating form so far this season and currently sit in second position in the Premier League table, just one point behind league leaders Chelsea.

Babb discussed his former side’s season so far when speaking on Sky Sports Now, and responded to a question asking him to compare Klopp’s men to the side he played in under Roy Evans and Gerard Houllier in the 90’s:

“Our sort of entertainers, it’s a difficult one because I had McManaman, Fowler, Redknapp, Barnes, even Rushy was still playing. We had a really attractive, good footballing side. But I’m watching these guys and there’s so much potential, they just seem to be getting better and better. What Jürgen Klopp’s done is make everyone enjoy what they’re doing at the club. Everyone’s contributing – goals from everywhere.”

The Merseyside giants are certainly entertaining this season, and are the Premier League’s top goal scorers with 32 goals in their 13 outings thus far.

If they are to go on and win the league though, they will have to tighten up their defence, with the 14 goals they have conceded so far being the highest amount out of every club in the top five in the league table.

Earlier this month, we compiled our very own Liverpool team of the 90’s which, coincidentally, Phil Babb did not even make!

The XI can be seen here, what do you think?
