Paulo Dybala has called Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero a ‘phenomenon’ on Instagram after Argentina beat Australia 2-1 to book their quarter-final ticket at the Qatar World Cup on Saturday.

The 24-year-old started at centre-back for his country – for the second game running – and helped Argentina set-up a tie against Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands.

Whilst Romero is earning some game time out in Doha on football’s biggest stage, the same can’t be said for Roma star, Dybala.

The 29-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 12 matches this season, has been on the bench and an unused substitute for all four of Argentina’s matches.

Even with Angel Di Maria’s recent injury, he hasn’t been able to find game time under Lionel Scaloni, but then again, there is a certain Lionel Messi singing and dancing with the ball in front of him.

Nonetheless, the previously-linked Tottenham player was in high spirits for his teammates after that win and he simply sent a one-word message to Romero in the comments section of his IG post, which was…’phenomenon’.

IS ROMERO UNDERRATED?

He might have had a difficult opening game, when the Saudis shocked the world and beat the South American giants, but who didn’t on that day?

Ever since his move to Tottenham, he has become a bit of a fan favourite because of his aggressive and front-foot nature when defending, added to his no-nonsense style.

Sometimes, it can be a little over the top or erratic, but as long as he has clam heads around him, then that spicy mix he provides serves well with the rest of his teammates.
