Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has led the tributes for Sergio Aguero, who yesterday announced his retirement from football.
The ex-Belgian international posted a lengthy message on Twitter as his former teammate called it time on his career.
Aguero has been forced into early retirement after suffering a cardiac problem just a few months into his time with new club FC Barcelona.
At just 33-years-old, it is sad to see a player as great as Aguero call time on an illustrious footballing career.
The striker remains the highest-scoring foreigner in the Premier League era as well as the highest-goalscorer in City’s entire history.
Indeed, Aguero will be remembered for many generations to come. The striker will go down as one of the best of his day, with the attacker forever having a legacy at City, where he won five Premier League titles and was runner-up in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.
Kompany leads tributes to Aguero retirement

Many famous faces took to social media to wish Aguero well in his retirement, and Kompany was just one of many former City players to do so.
The defender played with Aguero for eight years with the Manchester giants, and his tribute on Twitter was a touching one.
The current R.S.C. Anderlecht manager posted: “An extraordinary striker has retired from the game, but also a great teammate, a friend and a unique personality.
“Thanks, and respect to an authentic Man City phenomenon. I wish you nothing but the best legend.”
