Stephen Warnock has lavished praise on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson following his performance at Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool temporarily moved top of the Premier League standings with a hard-fought victory over the Magpies at St James’s Park.
Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated throughout the 90 minutes.
But the hosts still had their moments and Alisson, a £66 million signing in 2018, showed why he’s such a massively-important part of this Reds’ squad.
The Brazil international pulled off a number of smart stops to keep out Newcastle, including one from Chris Wood in the second half, even though the big hitman wound up being offside.
Here’s what former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock said about Alisson.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Alisson is a phenomenal goalkeeper. His understanding of when to come out and closing the angles down is superb. As soon as strikers come forward they look up and see him coming out.”
How discouraging it must be to come up against this Liverpool team.
Even when their attacking players are having an off-day, which they certainly were, Klopp’s defence were absolutely exceptional on Saturday.
But even if the attack and defence were struggling in the same game, which is extraordinarily rare, the opposition still have to beat one of the world’s finest goalkeepers.
This Liverpool outfit are just about as flawless as you’ll find anywhere in football.
And it’s genuinely no wonder that the Merseysiders are going for an unprecedented quadruple.
Manchester City re-took their spot at the top of the Premier League with a victory at Leeds later on Saturday, but there’s every chance that Liverpool will be top dogs when all is said and done – domestically and in Europe.
And games like these are a reminder how massive Alisson is to the cause at Anfield.
