Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Ashley Phillips with a deal for the Blackburn Rovers talent expected this week.

Blackburn Rovers defender Ashley Phillips is expected to finally become a Tottenham Hotspur player this week.

That is according to the London Evening Standard, who claim that Spurs are expecting to wrap this deal up by the end of the week.

It’s stated that Tottenham initially agreed a deal worth £3million plus £2million in add-ons for Phillips.

However, Blackburn hiked up their asking price out of nowhere, demanding a package worth around £9.5million.

Rovers wanted to engineer a bidding war for Phillips but no other clubs have come forward to rival Tottenham.

A £2million release clause can allegedly be activated on Friday, but a deal would still see Rovers pocket around £6.5million if all add-ons are met.

Phillips is also described as being ‘determined’ to sign for Tottenham, with a deal seemingly edging closer.

Tottenham have been waiting and waiting for Ashley Phillips

This has been a deal that Tottenham have been wanting for a long time now.

Even going back to last year, The Daily Mail reported that Tottenham were closing in on signing Phillips but he ended up choosing to stay at Ewood Park.

Spurs have kept tabs on Phillips and made their move earlier this month.

90Min reported that Tottenham were on the verge of signing Phillips before Blackburn hiked up those demands.

That left Spurs fearing deja vu in that they moved towards signing Phillips only to see the deal fall apart.

It finally looks like Tottenham are going to land their man and it’s hard not to be excited.

18-year-old Phillips has been branded ‘phenomenal’ by Tony Mowbray and already has 14 first-team appearances to his name.

Phillips could develop into a star and may well become a mainstay of the Tottenham defence for years to come if this deal can finally get over the line.
