Speaking on BT Sport, Rio Ferdinand has been waxing-lyrical about Trent Alexander-Arnold after his phenomenal season so far.
The right-back has been on top form this term. He’s grabbed no fewer than 16 assists in all competitions, and Ferdinand has been blown away by what he’s seen from the defender.
Indeed, the pundit says that Alexander-Arnold’s stats are unrecognisable from a full-back, stating that Trent is just a phenomenal footballer.
What’s been said?
Ferdinand was full of praise for Alexander-Arnold.
“He’s producing numbers here that are just unrecognisable as a full-back,” Ferdinand said.
“Look at his delivery, you don’t just get the assists from being in the right position, you have to be able to execute and that’s what he has above most, he’s a phenomenal footballer.”

A league of his own
Ferdinand says that Alexander-Arnold is producing stats that are unrecognisable from a full-back, and he’s absolutely right.
We’ve seen creative defenders in the past such as Dani Alves and Roberto Carlos, but Alexander-Arnold is doing something we’ve never seen before.
He’s arguably the best playmaker in the world right now, and he’s a defender. A decade ago that would have sounded absolutely ridiculous, but Alexander-Arnold has completely changed the way many of us think about the game.
Ferdinand calls him a phenomenal footballer, and that is an apt description.
