Brendan Rodgers has spoken up in defence of Jose Mourinho on the Robbie Fowler podcast, despite rumours that he could be the man to replace the Portuguese boss at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail say that Rodgers has plenty of admirers at Tottenham, with the pressure continuing to build on Mourinho.

The Spurs boss seems to have alienated a number of his players, and he has failed to deliver any sort of consistent results to the North London club.

Tottenham were presented with a chance to break into the top four at the weekend, but they were awful in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.

That failure has seen the pressure ramp up further on Mourinho.

But Rodgers insists that the Tottenham man is one of the leading lights for coaching in the Premier League.

“Jose gets written off a bit in modern times but this is one of the greats of this generation of coaching,” he said.

“He was absolutely phenomenal. A different style, a different way of working than some other coaches.”

If Spurs are to go for Rodgers he could be an appealing target, but getting a move over the line would surely be tough.

Leicester are likely to want to keep hold of Rodgers and after his recent success at the King Power Stadium, it remains to be seen whether the Tottenham job would even appeal to him.

His latest comments will surely be welcomed by Mourinho, as the current Spurs boss has received a great deal of criticism of late.
