Jose Mourinho has lamented the ‘phenomenal save’ that denied Son Heung-min a goal in Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat by Leicester City in North London this afternoon.
Spurs slumped to a second-straight defeat after losing 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield in midweek.
With 19 minutes to go, Tottenham very nearly had a route back into the game, but Foxes goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel denied Son with a stunning point-blank stop.
It was one of the few clear-cut chances that the Lilywhites created during a second half in which Brendan Rodgers’s side were relatively solid defensively.
And quizzed about the lack of chances, Mourinho said to Football London: “I remember Schmeichel making a phenomenal save with Sonny on the far post and us being dominant and trying. I agree with you, we didn’t create 15 chances in the second half.
“But they’re a good team, they know how to defend, drop the lines back and they created difficulties with their defensive organisation.”
As good as a save as it was, Son definitely should’ve scored.
The Tottenham attacker probably didn’t connect with it as much as he would have liked to and although Mourinho has praised the save, he might, on reflection, characterise it as a big miss more than anything else.
Mourinho’s side were top of the Premier League on Wednesday afternoon but now find themselves fifth, six points behind leaders Liverpool.
