Paul Merson has stated that Bukayo Saka has done ‘amazing’ for Arsenal in the Premier League this season.

The Highbury hero added that even though the opposition tries to ‘stop him from playing’ and put the Hale-End star ‘on their radar’, he still delivers for Arsenal and is putting up ‘absolutely phenomenal’ numbers.

On Wednesday night, Saka was on target as the Gunners secured a valuable and much-needed three points against Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta helped win the bragging rights at Stamford Bridge, but most importantly, it allowed them to go on the front foot again in the Premier League’s top-four race.

A player like Saka, who will turn 21 in September, has been crucial to all of that and Merson is loving what he is seeing from the player, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.

“He has done amazing,” said Merson. “I am so pleased for him. He plays in a hard position on the football pitch.

“Saka is the bright spark for Arsenal. He’s the dangerman, yet he still puts up figures like that. And they haven’t got a lot of danger men.

“The figures he is putting up (most goals/assists, chances created, shots, touches in opp. Box and dribbles for Arsenal this season) is absolutely phenomenal.

“When you are playing in a top, top team. And you are putting them figures up, then there are loads of quality players and you can’t double up on players. But they double up on him. He’s on the radar. Teams go out and say ‘stop him from playing’. Yet he still has top stats.”

There aren’t many youngsters around in world football that are better than Arsenal’s young flying star.

After bursting onto the scene as a teenager and playing at left-back, Saka has transformed his game big time.

The versatile forward is now one of the first names on the team sheet under Arteta and a key reason why fans are dreaming big.

Added with the fact that he is also a key member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad and should be on the plane to Qatar for Euro 2022.
