The PGA Tour’s annual awards season celebrates the most defining performances at the end of the competitive year.
The 2025 Jack Nicklaus Award race feels especially significant, framing the season around the most consistent and impactful players.
Each year, the Nicklaus Award highlights not just who won the most, but who shaped the story of the Tour from early spring to the FedExCup finale.
The honors will ultimately be decided by a vote among PGA Tour members who competed in at least 15 official FedExCup events this season.
The PGA Tour recently announced the four nominees, headlined by Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.

Nominees for the Jack Nicklaus Award
Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood’s name on this list is a nod to persistence paying off. His first PGA Tour victory came at the biggest moment: a win at the Tour Championship that sealed the FedExCup title.
The Englishman also finished fourth in the world rankings and posted eight top-ten finishes. His season combined steady progress with a closing surge that few saw coming.
Ben Griffin
Ben Griffin’s year was built on volume and consistency. Three wins, including the Zurich Classic and Charles Schwab Challenge, placed him inside the FedExCup top ten and ninth in the world rankings.
He played more events than any other nominee and stayed inside the top tier for scoring average.
Rory McIlroy
McIlroy’s campaign was defined by history. Victories at Pebble Beach, The Players, and The Masters gave him the career Grand Slam, a feat that reshaped his legacy and reignited his place among the game’s all-time greats.
His scoring average ranked second on Tour, showing how precise his control remained even as the stakes rose.
Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler, meanwhile, assembled a season that bordered on relentless. Six wins, including two major championships at the PGA and The Open, maintained his world number one status.
His 17 top-ten finishes without a missed cut underlined a level of reliability that few have matched in the modern era.

Scottie Scheffler’s statistical edge over Rory McIlroy
By nearly every metric, Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 campaign stood apart. His scoring average of 68.131, the lowest on Tour, earned him the Byron Nelson Award for a second straight season.
Scheffler also ranked first in strokes gained: tee-to-green, greens in regulation, and birdie average, illustrating a level of control that defined the year statistically as much as competitively.
Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, made history of his own. His victory at The Masters completed the career Grand Slam, joining only five others in that rare company.
He added wins at Pebble Beach and The Players, finished the season with a 69.083 scoring average, and ranked second on Tour in strokes gained: total.
Both players framed the story of 2025, yet Scheffler’s statistical depth may give him the edge in the Jack Nicklaus Award vote.
McIlroy’s season carried emotional and historical resonance, while Scheffler’s represented the purest version of sustained excellence.
