Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony thinks Celtic would be a top eight team in the Premier League.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to suggest that Celtic would finish in the top eight of the Premier League if they were allowed in.

The Bhoys beat Old Firm rivals Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon to make it 15 league wins in a row for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Goals from summer signings Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair handed Celtic their victory, and they now lie 19 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

With just two points dropped so far this term, Celtic are once again dominating Scottish football, and look set to win the title at a canter for a sixth year in a row.

The idea of Celtic joining the Premier League has been suggested for many years now, and their performances under Rodgers this season have stoked the debate once again.

In fact, one fan has taken to Twitter to ask Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony just how he thinks Celtic would perform in English football.

The Irishman claims that Celtic would comfortably finish in the top eight of the Premier League, which may be seen as a bold claim, but the Bhoys did impress with some strong Champions League displays.

It seems unlikely that Celtic would join the Premier League any time soon, but the competition for the top eight is already fierce. Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United have established themselves as the top six teams in the division, whilst the likes of Everton, Southampton and West Ham United all harbour ambitions of finishing in the top eight.

Any move to the Premier League would give Celtic considerably more money to invest, and with Rodgers at the helm, it’s not infeasible that they would challenge for a top half finish if allowed into the Premier League in the near future.
