As speculation continues to grow on the future of Tom Ince, Derby County may need to start considering his replacement, and Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison would be a viable option.
Derby County continue to be linked with selling Tom Ince. The Rams are reported to have set a £10 million asking price for the influential winger, after turning down a bid £7.2 million bid from Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town (Derby Telegraph).
Whilst the Terriers are yet to come back with another bid, they are expected to have another go at securing the 25-year-old’s signature. Derby fans are understandably unnerved by the idea of losing one of their prized assets.
If Derby are to lose Ince this summer then supporters will be hoping that the club has a potential replacement lined up. A player who should be considered for the role is Peterborough United talisman Marcus Maddison.
The 23-year-old moved to London Road in 2014 from non-league side Gateshead and has enjoyed a fruitful three years with the League One club. He has scored 30 goals and notched up 38 assists in 124 games for the Posh.
Like Ince, Maddison is capable of playing in any of the advanced midfield positions, but is comfortable playing either through the middle or on the right wing, preferring to cut in on his left foot.

Whilst Maddison is capable of scoring spectacular goals, his real value to the team comes with his assists for the team.
Derby boss Gary Rowett will be looking to further strengthen his squad but after already signing Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom, it seems likely that he will now move on to selling players to raise funds.
If Ince does leave the club, then the funds raised by his sale would comfortably cover the transfer fee for Maddison.
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony hinted on Twitter last week that the Rams may be interested in one of his players.
So a potential move for Maddison may happen. Whether he is replacing or playing with Tom Ince next season remains to be seen.
