West Ham United managed to sign up Oladapo Afolayan on deadline day.

Peterborough United manager Grant McCann has confirmed on his side’s official Youtube channel that Posh thought that they had signed Oladapo Afolayan, before West Ham United swooped in at the last minute.

Afolayan arrived at West Ham on deadline day, with David Moyes’ side snapping up the youngster from non-league.

Afolayan will now be added to West Ham’s development side, as they look to nurture his talent.

And McCann admits that he was disappointed not to see Posh get a deal over the line for the forward.

“We were close on a deal for a young lad from non-league, but his agent moved the goalposts and he signed for West Ham,” McCann said. “We were really disappointed when we heard the news on that.”

Afolayan was one of two strikers which West Ham added on deadline day, with Jordan Hugill also arriving from Preston North End.

Afolayan’s first-team chances at West Ham this season look slim, but he has been tipped to have a very bright future.

The youngster has scored prolifically in non-league with Solihull Moors, which has attracted the attention of a host of professional clubs.

Posh did manage to make a striker signing on deadline day, with Omar Bogle joining the League One side on loan from Cardiff City.
