Bruce signed the former Peterborough player at Hull City and now manages him at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Peterborough United owner, Darragh MacAnthony, has rubbished a claim alleged to have been made by the Sheffield Wednesday manager, Steve Bruce, about the former Posh player, George Boyd.
Boyd scored his first goal of the season as Wednesday beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at Hillsborough on Tuesday and, through the local reporter, Alan Biggs, was praised by Bruce afterwards.
The 58-year-old was quoted by Biggs as saying: “I signed him for (£)50 grand (at Hull City) and he helped us get promotion. A great pro. His energy … to keep running the way he does, at his age (33), is quite remarkable.”
But according to MacAnthony, the figure received by Peterborough was in the end around 20 TIMES higher.
Responding to the alleged claim on Twitter last night (Wednesday), the Irishman wrote: “(£)50k is wrong. We ended up making over £900k from the deal When player had 4 months or so left on his deal.

“Exact deal if memory is correct –
“£350k loan fee (he signed perm in summer as only loan window open at time)
“£350k promotion bonus (they did it)
“£300k if they stayed up & a sell on fee which we did well from when he was sold for £3 mill to Burnley. Not bad business”.
Boyd is out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday this summer and despite featuring regularly since Bruce’s arrival in January, he is far from certain to be given a new one.
The former Peterborough favourite is understood to be among the highest earners at Hillsborough, where concerns remain about breaching the English Football League’s Profit & Sustainability rules, and turns 34 later this year.

In total, he spent 18 months at Hull and three years at Burnley before joining Sheffield Wednesday at the end of his deal in 2017.
