Peterborough United were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Swindon Town.

Peterborough United took the lead in the 36th minute through a Gwion Edwards header from Marcus Maddison’s free-kick – Edwards’ fourth goal of the season.

Swindon levelled the scores at 1-1 early in the second-half after Michael Doughty converted from the penalty spot, but Posh took the lead again after 63 minutes when Maddison converted a penalty of his own. The culprit who tripped Chris Forrester was Sean Murray – just four minutes into his debut for Swindon.

But Swindon managed to equalise again in the 76th minute through an own goal from Posh defender Jack Baldwin after Doughty had whipped a dangerous cross into the Posh box.

The match stats were fairly even, but Posh can feel disappointed that they were unable to win all three points in front of their home fans. Posh managed six shots on target over the 90 minutes, while Swindon could only muster two.

Posh have now had a full suite of results in their home games thus far this season, having opened their account at home with a 1-0 loss to Bradford before beating Millwall 5-1. They remain in the play-off places, although that may change when the 3pm kick-offs have finished.

Peterborough fans took to Twitter to have their say on the result, and there was a general mood of positivity amongst the fans. Deadline Day signing George Moncur came in for praise on his debut performance for the side.

The Vale are also in and around the play-off places at this stage of the season, and so the match will be a bellwether for Grant McCann’s men to see if they will remain in the top half of the table as the season continues.
