Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Peter Taylor has suggested on Skysports.com that Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is not good enough to play in the holding midfield position.

Taylor made the comment following England’s narrow 1-0 victory over 10-man Slovakia away from home in the 2018 World Cup Group F qualifier (UEFA) on Sunday evening.

Liverpool midfielder Henderson started the game at Stadion Antona Malatinskeho in Trnava and played for 64 minutes.

Former Crystal Palace and Tottenham winger Taylor was following the match, and he was not impressed with the performance of the 26-year-old.

“I felt as though Henderson, the holding midfield player, could have got forward a touch more but he might have been under instructions to sit there,” Taylor wrote on Skysports.com while giving the former Sunderland midfielder 6 out of 10. “I just think to play in that position you need a little bit more quality.”

Taylor, though, was impressed with the performance of Tottenham defenders Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.

Walker and Rose were the two full-backs for the Three Lions against Slovakia on Sunday evening.

“He got up and down the pitch well for the whole 90 minutes and he looked good, so I was pretty impressed with Walker’s performance on the whole,” Taylor wrote about Walker on Skysports.com while giving the right-back 7 out of 10.

The former Leicester City manager also gave left-back Rose 7 out of 10 and wrote on Skysports.com: “Whenever he had to defend, he defended well.

“There were a couple of times one v one where he defended well, but he also got forward throughout. You can’t ask for any more than that from a full-back.”

Walker and Rose are two of the best full-backs in the Premier League and are important players for Tottenham. The Spurs duo are set to remain key figures in the England set-up for years to come.

The match against Slovakia was England head coach Sam Allardyce’s first in charge of the Three Lions.
