Peter Schmeichel has suggested to beIN Sport that the pitch in Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium isn’t completely ready yet.

Tottenham beat Manchester City in the first leg of last night’s Champions League quarter-final, with Son Heung-min opening the scoring on 78 minutes as Spurs drew first blood in the tie.

But the victory might have come at something of a cost for the North Londoners, who lost Harry Kane to injury after rolling his ankle following a challenge by Fabian Delph.

Mauricio Pochettino confirmed afterwards that Kane – who has suffered an injury to the same ankle already this season – might miss Tottenham’s run-in [The Mirror].

Kane appeared to lose his footing in the incident with Delph, as did several players throughout out the 90 minutes, and former Manchester United goalkeeper Schmeichel has questioned whether the playing surface of Spurs’ £1 billion stadium is 100 percent ready.

He told beIN Sport: “This is only the third game that’s been played on that pitch and we’ve already seen players today slide a little bit. The pitch is maybe not 100 percent there.”

It’s devastating for Tottenham if Kane misses the rest of their season. Not only will victory in the return leg at Eastlands be very difficult, but Pochettino needs his talisman to help guarantee a top-four finish.

The Lilywhites are fourth with six games to go, one point ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal.
