Peter Schmeichel was fuming on Twitter after Serge Aurier saw his goal ruled out by VAR for offside during Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday at the King Power Stadium.

At the time, Spurs were winning the game 1-0, and whilst Serge Aurier thought he had found the back of the net, VAR judged that his teammate, Son was offside, and as a result, the goal was ruled out.

However, replays showed that Son, if he was offside, would have been offside by a very, very small marginal, as Brendan Rodgers side went on to secure all three points.

During that game, Premier League legend Schmeichel, whose son, Kasper, was playing in between the sticks for the Foxes, sent this message during the game.

Ever since VAR’s introduction into English football this season, it has caused a number of talking points, as the reaction to it has been pretty negative.

From offside decisions to officials not overturning the referee’s on-field call, it has caused a lot of drama, with Spurs being involved in their fair share this season.

Last month, Manchester City saw a stoppage-time winning goal disallowed for handball, with Spurs walking away from the Etihad with a point.

But on this occasion, VAR went against them, as Spurs’ indifferent start to the new season continues. They will be hoping to put that right when they take on Colchester United in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Following Schmeichel’s comments, a number of fans responded to his message, with some agreeing with his comments and others disagreeing.
