There aren’t many Manchester United players who can hold their heads up high this season.
Unless your name is Kobbie Mainoo, and perhaps, just perhaps, one or two others, then you should hang your head in shame.
In a season where Manchester United are on course to produce their worst-ever Premier League campaign – they currently sit eighth in the table.
Kobbie Mainoo probably can’t believe where he is right now, how he has become a starter for his boyhood club so quickly and also made his England debut, all in a matter of months.
Whether it’s Manchester United losing 4-0 to Crystal Palace or handing Arsenal a boost in their Premier League title race with Manchester City.
Most of the time, the one shining light seems to be their ice-cool and ever-improving teenage midfield star.
But the 19-year-old’s situation has left a certain Peter Schmeichel pretty frustrated.
The legendary goalkeeper stated that it’s ‘just ridiculous’ the questions that are being asked of the player already, as he told Premier League Productions (12/05/24 at 3:40 pm).
Schmeichel feels that Mainoo, at such a tender age, is already having to ‘carry the team’ as everything around him continues to crash and burn.

“The questions being of Mainoo this season is just ridiculous for a young player,” said Schmeichel.
“To have to carry the team and have responsibility. He needs a bit of help and I don’t think Amrabat (re-starting with Mainoo in midfield v Arsenal) is that help. I think he is struggling on his own.”

There is still the FA Cup final against Manchester City to look forward to if you are Mainoo, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Manchester United fans are pessimistic about that.
In truth, having someone like Mainoo in the middle of the park gives them hope because he already has the skill set to perform in the big games.

That’s why there is every chance he heads to Germany in the summer and is part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.
Never mind Mainoo earning that golden ticket, some feel that he should be starting alongside Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.
