Tottenham have showcased their goalscoring might under Ange Postecoglou this season.

When Harry Kane left, and given how the team has performed in previous campaigns, you could have feared the worst.

But many can’t argue that Tottenham are one of the most entertaining sides in the Premier League this season.

That’s largely down to the style of play Postecoglou has implemented because it’s still ultra-attacking, even when it’s logical to sit back and see the game out.

One player who has been back to his best this season is Son Heung-min – he only scored ten league goals last term, but has already hit the 15-goal mark.

With Kane and Hugo Lloris leaving, it’s the 31-year-old who has taken charge of matters on the field, as well as being named club captain in the summer.

Peter Schmeichel labelled Son as a ‘fantastic’ player after he became Tottenham’s fifth highest goal scorer of all time, as he told Premier League Productions (31/03/24 at 11:00 pm).

The legendary goalkeeper stated that the South Korean star’s 159 goals for Spurs suggest that he is a selfish player, but ‘he hasn’t got that’ trait in his locker even if people think that way.

Son Heung-min’s goalscoring prowess for Tottenham

“Fantastic player, isn’t he,” said Schmeichel. “He works so hard for the team. He has got pace.

“Those numbers (fifth highest goalscorer) suggest a little bit of selfishness. He hasn’t got that. If he is in a good position and somebody is in a better position, then he will pass the ball. He doesn’t care who scores the goal.

“He has that ability to find that goal they need or create the chance they need.”

Son Heung-min a Tottenham legend

It has been close to a decade since Son has been at the club and he will be eligible for that testimonial very soon.

Of course, he has a long way to go in his career before he can think about that, including trying to help the team earn Champions League football.

It would be fitting, given what Son has provided over the years, that he does captain the team to a trophy.

It won’t happen during this campaign, but Postecoglou and his players are showing signs that they could head down that road in the coming years.
