Peter Schmeichel told CBS Sport that there are ‘some massive teams’ who are not in the last eight of the Champions League before aiming a brutal dig at Manchester City.
Both Schmeichel, ex-Reds captain Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards had been winding each other up all night during their coverage of Wednesday’s Champions League.
And when the line-up for the last eight was finally confirmed, Schmeichel couldn’t help but mention that every team in the quarter-finals has reached a final, apart from Manchester City.
“We have got some massive teams who are not there,” said Schmeichel. “Barcelona’s not there, Juventus is not there and I hate to say it but Manchester United is not there.
“All of them up there, apart from one team, has been in a (Champions League) final.”

Porto, who knocked out Juventus in one of the most dramatic games this season, won the competition under Jose Mourinho, and his former club, Chelsea, were also winners in 2012.
In recent years, Dortmund have reached the final hurdle but fallen at the wrong time, whilst the likes of Bayern, Liverpool and Real Madrid are serial winners of this competition.
Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup aside, this is what everyone at Man City craves and the trophy they are trying their utmost to win.
It could be argued that they are the favourites to lift the crown this season, but it’s very, very difficult getting over the line for the first time, as Chelsea found out many, many years ago.
