The Danish legend wants Leeds back in the top-flight.

Manchester United hero and Premier League goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel has given his backing to Leeds United to return to the Premier League.

Leeds, who lost 2-0 to Brighton last night, have had an excellent season in the Championship this term under the guidance of Garry Monk and are undoubtedly in the hunt for promotion to the Premier League.

The great Dane was speaking on Soccer AM this morning (10/12/2016) when he discussed the potential of Leeds to make the Premier League and their fierce rivalry with his beloved Red Devils:

“It would be. Leeds it’s one of those memories I have, going to Elland Road or playing them at Old Trafford where the atmosphere is just electric.

“It’s a little bit like playing Liverpool. There is a different kind of, I can’t say hate but … dislike, between leeds and Manchester United.

“It would be great to see a club of that stature back in the Premier League.”

Schmeichel, whose son Kasper spent time as the Leeds United number one goalkeeper, is clearly a fan of having Leeds back in the top-flight and that tends to be the general consensus among most neutrals who appreciate the magnitude of Leeds as a club.

They have been out of the top-flight for too long and Leeds fans have been suffering in the doldrums for many a year.

Monk has Leeds playing good football and they are certainly in the promotion hunt.

A return to the top-flight would also see them back in competition with Manchester United as well – a rivalry that English football has missed.
