Muhamed Besic is yet to play for Everton so far this season.

Peter Reid has told Everton’s official website that the return of Muhamed Besic will strengthen Ronald Koeman’s midfield options even further.

Everton already have Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye, Tom Davies, Gareth Barry and James McCarthy available to them.

And Reid believes that when Besic comes back from injury, Everton will be very well stocked.

“Schneiderlin is a really good footballer and a really good buy,” Reid said. “I thought he was terrific for Southampton and Everton will be a really good fit for the boy.

“He will complement Gueye in that midfield anchor. There is nice balance to that partnership. I’ve also been really impressed with Tom Davies as well – who looks the real deal – so there is plenty of competition in midfield, especially when you add McCarthy and the experience of Barry.

“Of course Mo Besic is out at the moment but he will come back into it as well. You are looking at a good blend of midfield players there.”

Besic was ruled out in August with a knee injury, and he is still not off the treatment table yet.

The Bosnian international is expected to make it back to fitness before the end of the season, but whether he will be able to break into Koeman’s team now remains to be seen.

The emergence of Davies, combined with the addition of Schneiderlin means competition for places is now fierce at Goodison Park.

Everton are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Stoke City.
