Jamie Carragher said that no Everton signings would get into the Liverpool team.

Liverpool may have broken their transfer record to sign Mohamed Salah this summer, but their spending has been overshadowed by neighbours Everton.

The Toffees confirmed the signings of two players yesterday, bringing in Sandro from Malaga and Michael Keane from Burnley.

This follows moves for Henry Onyekuru, Davy Klaassen and Jordan Pickford.

Reds legend Jamie Carragher isn’t impressed though. He took to Twitter to post an image of a smiling Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, remarking that he should not be confirmed as none of the players would get into the starting XI at Anfield.

Carragher’s message was met by furious responses from Everton fans – perhaps the precise intention the former defender was looking for.

Among those to hit back was former Everton player Peter Reid, who responded by telling Carragher he must be drunk to make such an assertion.

At the moment both parties will feel they are correct – but Carragher has inadvertently laid down the gauntlet, and provided the Toffees with even more motivation to deliver on the pitch as well as off it this coming season.
