Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers visit Celtic for an Old Firm battle on Saturday.
Rangers legend Peter Lovenkrands has told Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers that his experience as a big-name manager will count for little ahead of Saturday’s Old Firm.
Rangers make the trip to Parkhead this weekend in what will be the first local meeting between the sides in a Premiership setting since 2012.
Gers boss Mark Warburton took charge of the Scottish Cup semi-final win over the Hoops in April, but it will be Rodgers’s first time experiencing such a fixture, after succeeding Ronny Deila back in May.
The Northern Irish boss has presided over some big games in the past; whether it was Liverpool versus Manchester United or Swansea City’s derby with Cardiff City.
But will that experience help him when Rangers visit Parkhead? Not according to Lovenkrands, who believes that nothing can prepare anybody for such a hostile fixture.
He told The Belfast Telegraph: “Brendan Rodgers has come in and reshaped them, which has been interesting to see.
“But actually, I’m not that surprised he came to Scotland as he wants the challenge of guiding Celtic to success. He’s a big name with a lot of experience at other clubs, but that doesn’t prepare you for an Old Firm game. Nothing does really.”
Celtic have looked excellent under Rodgers thus far, the shock Champions League defeat by Lincoln Red Imps aside, and Rangers, despite signing 12 players and beating the Hoops last season, will certainly have their work cut out for them.
