Newcastle United picked up their first win of the season with a thumping 4-1 victory over Fulham at St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening.

As the early title favourites, Newcastle came in for immediate pressure after two straight defeats – but they answered their critics with a superb win over Reading on Wednesday evening.
Isaac Hayden bagged his first goal for the club with the opener, before Garath McCleary’s penalty dragged Reading level on the stroke of half time.
Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle celebrates scoring their third goal
However, Newcastle ran riot in the second half as Matt Ritchie converted a penalty of his own, and Dwight Gayle scored twice to make it three goals in his last two games.
Newcastle are now off the mark in the Championship, and can look ahead to this weekend’s clash away at Bristol City in the hope of making it two wins in a row.
Former Newcastle star Peter Lovenkrands
After the game, former Newcastle forward Peter Lovenkrands took to Twitter to celebrate a ‘great result’, and was happy to take a ‘brilliant three points’, which moved Newcastle up into 17th place in the Championship table.
Lovenkrands then looked ahead to Newcastle’s next game, which is a potentially tricky encounter at Ashton Gate against Lee Johnson’s exciting Bristol City side.
