Celtic have today confirmed that manager Brendan Rodgers has signed a new four-year contract with the club – and chief executive Peter Lawwell has shared his delight with the deal.

The Bhoys decided to move on from Ronny Deila at the end of last season, and whilst a number of managers were linked with the post last summer, Celtic pulled off a major coup by landing Brendan Rodgers as their new manager.

Rodgers, 44, had taken Liverpool to within a whisker of winning the Premier League title in 2014, but he was sacked in October 2015 after a poor run of results.

The Northern Irishman, who grew up following Celtic, took the reins with his boyhood club, and has rebuilt his reputation with a stunning season in Glasgow.

Not only have Celtic managed to clinch a sixth straight Scottish Premiership title without losing a game, but Rodgers also guided Celtic into the group stages of the Champions League – something Deila never achieved.

Rodgers’ exploits have seen him touted for a return to England, with many expecting him to be in contention for the Arsenal job should Arsene Wenger leave his post this summer.

However, Celtic have today confirmed on their official website that Rodgers, who was previously on a one-year rolling contract, has penned a new long-term deal until 2021.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell praised Rodgers for his huge impact at Celtic Park, claiming he is one of the best coaches in Europe if not the world, and he is ecstatic to see Rodgers commit his future to the Bhoys.

“Brendan has made a huge impact at Celtic already,” said Lawwell. “He’s an outstanding manager and we believe he is one of the best coaches in Europe, if not world football, and we’re delighted that he has committed his future to Celtic,” he added.
