It looks like Celtic will be spending money in January.

Cetlic Chief Exectutive Peter Lawwell looks on during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has said during the club’s Annual General Meeting that Brendan Rodgers will have money to spend in January.

Only recently have Celtic started to look like the team who have dominated Scottish football under Rodgers, who has delivered back-to-back trebles since 2017.

The Northern Irishman struggled to get a tune out of the Hoops for most of September, following on from a disappointing transfer window which saw them miss out on John McGinn – who joined Aston Villa – and lose Moussa Dembele, albeit for £20 million.

But with Rangers only two points behind the table-topping Bhoys, Rodgers needs reinforcements this winter to keep alive the club’s hope of an unprecedented ‘treble treble’ in May.

And it looks like the former Liverpool boss will have the resources to make the necessary changes.

Lawwell told media during the AGM: “We invest everything into the club. The club breaks even after CL money. £17m profit down to player sales.

“[The] market is difficult. All frustrated after summer window. We want to invest, there’s money to invest, we’ll look to do that in Jan.”

After recouping some £28 million from the sales of Dembele, Erik Sviatchenko and Stuart Armstrong, Celtic, who broke their club record on a £9 million deal for Odsonne Edouard, should have a surplus of around £17, which matches up to what Lawwell said today.

But it seems unlikely that Rodgers will be given the entire warchest in January, when deals can be notoriously difficult, but some additions is essential.
