Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers re-signed Kyle Lafferty this week.

Kyle lafferty of Rangers celebrates winning over Celtic during the Co-operative Insurance Cup final between at Hampden Park on March 20, 2011 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Peter Hartley has told The Scottish Sun that he is looking forward to playing against Rangers’ new boy Kyle Lafferty on Sunday.

Rangers re-signed the towering striker on a two-year deal this week.

Lafferty, who previously spent four years at Ibrox until 2012, made his second debut for the Gers on Thursday as Steven Gerrard’s side beat FC Ufa 1-0 in a Europa League playoff.

Hartley has no experience of coming up against the Northern Ireland marksman, but that could change when Gerrard’s side visit Fir Park this weekend, and the 30-year-old admits that Lafferty is a “quality player”.

“I’ve never played against him. I was injured when he was at Hearts — I came here just after we’d beaten them 2-1 and I missed the other games,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“But he’s a quality player and, without a doubt, that’s what you’re going to get when you play Rangers because they have a lot of people in that category.

“Lafferty’s an international player and, if I can do a job against him, I’ll be delighted. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Hartley is set to have his every touch booed by the travelling Rangers fans on Sunday.

The centre-back told The Scottish Sun yesterday that it was “fun” to watch Ryan Bowman break the nose of former Gers defender Fabio Cardoso last season.

Fans of the Ibrox club condemned Hartley for such comments on Twitter, but they will surely do the same in real life on Sunday.
