Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has written in The Daily Mail that Tottenham Hotspur’s reported pursuit of Aston Villa star Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window made sense.

According to Sky Sports, Premier League club Tottenham wanted to sign Grealish from Championship side Villa this summer.

Spurs reportedly made a bid of £25 million for the 22-year-old, but the Villans are claimed to have refused to sell the youngster for any price.

Former Tottenham striker Crouch, who has been on the books of Stoke since 2011, has given his take on the North London club’s reported pursuit of Grealish – who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder and earns £20,000 per week as salary, according to The Daily Star.

Crouch wrote in The Daily Mail: “I can understand why they wanted to sign Jack Grealish. It was a deal that made sense.

“He is a talented young Englishman and his profile suggests he would have blossomed under Pochettino’s guidance. Had the deal gone through, I could have seen him pushing for a senior cap.”

Chance gone?

Grealish is one of the best young attacking players in the Championship, and the 22-year-old would have been a great signing for Tottenham.

The youngster would have added strength to the Spurs squad and would have given manager Mauricio Pochettino more options on the substitutes’ bench.

While Tottenham could still fancy making a move for Grealish in the January transfer window, with Villa manager Steve Bruce telling The Daily Star that the 22-year-old is set to earn a new contract imminently, perhaps Spurs’ chances of signing him have gone for now.
