Peter Crouch has told his That Peter Crouch Podcast that Tottenham star Harry Kane will have been “angry” having failed to score going into the last 16 – before finally opening his World Cup account for England on Sunday evening.

Kane, 29, failed to score in England’s group games. However, he did lay on three assists for his teammates. Indeed, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden all benefitted from his ability to go out wide and create chances.

But Kane did not score – indeed, he did not really have any chances to score. But against Senegal, he was played through on goal by Phil Foden and boy, did he take his chance. He smashed one past Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy.

That will relieve the pressure on Kane. Many would have been questioning the England skipper if he was going into the quarter-final against Senegal without a goal. Crouch says that Kane will have been angry, even if does not say so.

“Without doubt, the person that Harry Kane is, it still would have been in the back of his mind. He’d tell you otherwise, but he’d still have been thinking about how he had not scored yet. It would have been wrangling with him.

“He wants to score in every game so to not score in three, he would have been angry. But some of his deliveries when he goes out wide, the cross with his left [against Senegal] was, wow. He’s so creative,” Crouch told his podcast.

Getting that goal against England, the way he did it, was a real moment for England. You get the feeling that it could be a catalyst for the Three Lions to go on and really push themselves towards the World Cup final and even, winning it.

But Crouch is right. Having been a goalscorer himself, he knows that Kane will have been frustrated not to have scored. That is no slight on his perfomances. He has been excellent, his ability to create has been crucial for The Three Lions.

Against France, can he nab his second? If he does, it will be massive for England. A real test for England and Kane. But, it will be France’s toughest game of the tournament and they will be just as nervous as England will be on Saturday.
