Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has suggested in The Daily Mail that Liverpool midfielder James Milner is not appreciated enough.

Crouch, who was on the books of Liverpool from 2005 until 2008, played with Milner for the England national football team.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa striker was pleased with the performance of the 32-year-old against Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at Anfield in midweek.

“Milner, especially, did not let Kevin De Bruyne out of his sight,” Crouch wrote about Milner in The Daily Mail. “Many simply do not appreciate what a top professional Milner is.”

Underrated and under-appreciated?

Milner is not exactly a great technical player, but what the former Leeds United star provides is sheer commitment and willingness to work hard.

The 32-year-old, who can operate as a midfielder, winger or left-back, gives his all in every match he features and words extremely hard.

Fans of Leeds, Newcastle United, Villa, Manchester City and now Liverpool will know fully well the consistency in the former England international’s game.

In many games for Liverpool since his switch to Anfield in the summer of 2015, Milner, who is valued at €15.2 million (£13.27m) by CIES Football Observatory, has been the unsung hero.
