Burnley striker Peter Crouch has spoken highly of reported Tottenham Hotspur target Matthijs de Ligt in The Daily Mail.

According to The Daily Star, Tottenham are interested in signing De Ligt from Ajax in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Spurs have followed the 19-year-old central defender for over a year, and that the North London outfit fear that they will miss out on the Netherlands international to a bigger club.

Former Tottenham striker Crouch, now on the books of Premier League rivals Burnley, has raved about De Ligt following his heroics against Juventus in the Champions League in midweek.

The talented and promising teenager scored the second and winning goal for Ajax in their 2-1 victory over Juventus away from home in Turin in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday evening to help the Dutch giants progress to the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

According to The Daily Star, Dutch giants Ajax value De Ligt at £69 million.

Crouch wrote about De Ligt in The Daily Mail: “Scored a famous goal for Ajax in Turin and once again showed why he is a big talent for the future.

“He has a huge reputation and I’m surprised Premier League clubs aren’t fighting Barcelona for his signature.”
